The tropics are relatively quiet for late September, with no tropical development expected in the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, or Gulf over the next seven days.

The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring Tropical Depression Fay, located well west-southwest of the Azores, and Tropical Storm Hanna, which is well east-northeast of Bermuda. Neither system poses a threat to coastal Alabama.
Late this week and into the weekend, a shift to a deep southerly flow will bring much more tropical moisture back into the area, but there won’t be any tropical developments.
However, this sets the stage for a wet and unsettled stretch from Thursday through the weekend, potentially continuing into early next week, with the potential for very heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding.
Increasing onshore winds will also raise the rip current risk to Moderate on Wednesday, then High from Thursday through the weekend along Alabama’s beaches.
